Olena Kurzel
Olena Kurzel (b. 2000, Yuzhnoukrainsk) is a Ukrainian artist. She lives and works in Kyiv. Kurzel is currently studying as an Easel Art senior at the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture. In her artistic work, Kurzel deals with such topics as self-identification, violence, and loneliness. She uses painting and small plastic art as her mediums.
Key subjects in Kurzel's artistic work are oblivion, loneliness, and death. The latter is only implied in her artworks but not present. These images haunt a person during their entire life. They are an inseparable part of a person. The individual, facing the unknown, is constantly anticipating one’s death. Afraid of oblivion and loneliness, a person is trying to escape from them.
