For years following the beginning of the war and the occupation of Donetsk in 2014, it has felt almost impossible to talk about emotions and share thoughts about the experience of that time. However, a year before the full-scale invasion, an image appeared in Margot's work that led to reflections on the archetype of the soldier.

These reflections stemmed from the question, “What are the characteristics of a person who takes on the responsibility of going to the defence of one’s land?”. In the graphic series, there is an image of a “monument” — a bold representation of someone who is strong enough to sacrifice a part of their “body” not only in the metaphorical sense of their identity but also quite literally.

Yet, we see a figure that is both strong and vulnerable, shedding light on the polarity and complexity of the personal experiences of someone who took responsibility for defending Ukraine's right to exist.
