Margo Sarkisova
Margo Sarkisova (b. 1997, Pokrovsk, Donetsk region) is a young Ukrainian artist who combines two identities in her family: Assyrian and Ukrainian. Margo was born and raised in the city of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region. She first became an internally displaced person in 2014. In February 2022, due to the outbreak of a full-scale war against Russia, she evacuated from Kharkiv and thus became a refugee for the second time. She currently lives in Graz, Austria.
Margo graduated with honours from the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. She was selected to participate in an international group exhibition at the Print Center New York (USA) in January 2020. She was one of the many participants who supported the project “The Shadow Of Dream Cast Upon Giardini Della Biennale” in the Ukrainian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale.
Margo has participated in projects and exhibitions in Germany, the USA, Bulgaria, Italy, Austria, Great Britain, and Greece. Her artworks are in private collections in Denmark, Ukraine, the USA, Australia, Norway, France, Canada, Italy, Great Britain, India, Germany, Scotland, the Czech Republic, and Austria.
In her artistic practice, Margo explores topics of national identity, gender inequality, and the role of women in Assyrian culture. For several years, she has been working on the concepts of “home” and “roots” in relation to a person, as well as thinking about how the cultural context affects a person's mentality and life.
