Impossibility of unflattening the flattened
While Mariupol was being razed to the ground by Russian artillery and airstrikes, the world used satellites to observe the destruction of the besieged city. Satellite imagery turned the three-dimensional architecture into a two-dimensional pattern, adding to the effect of the city being flattened. Only the emboss filter applied to the images helped restore depth and dimension. Still, it further destroyed reality by transforming the ruins into a surface which was gradually covered with thick dust — a lunar landscape right here on Earth.
