Anatoly Belov

Anatoly Belov (b. 1977, Kyiv) is a Ukrainian graphic designer, performer, director, musician, and frontman of the queer band Lyudska Podoba. Lives and works in Kyiv. Belov's works often take the form of musical performances, graphic works, and video works. His artistic practice is a process of self-discovery of his physical and sexual identity, the interaction of the individual with society, and the visibility of the LGBTI community in Ukrainian culture through various artistic means. Graduated from the department of book graphics of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute". He was a resident of: the Center for Contemporary Art founded by Soros, Kyiv (2005), Contemporary Art Association , Graz (2009), POST-STUDIO TALES, District Berlin, Berlin (2012), Kultur Kontakt Austria, Vienna (2012). Expert of the selection committee for the artistic and research residence "Z.mist.Identity", Mariupol (2018). His video “Sex, Мedicated, Rock-n-Roll” (2013) received the public prize of the PinchukArtCentre Award and is in the permanent collection of the MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art (Kraków).
Belov's works were shown at many Ukrainian and international exhibitions: “APOKALIPSYS”, curated by Anita Nemet and Vlodko Kostyrko, Diogenes gallery, Lviv (2022), “What can be done? Praktiken der Solidarität", curator Michaela Geboltsberger. Traiskirchen, (2022), Ukrainian-Polish project "Distant Tolerable Murder”, curators Anna Lazar and Lada Nakonechna, with the support of Galeria Arsenał in Białystok, presentation of the project in Berlin (2022), the home exhibition "()", curators Nikita Kadan and Clemens Poole, Kyiv (2020), "Permanent revolution", graphic installation of the project "Homophobia today — genocide tomorrow!", Ludwig Museum, Budapest (2018). Since 2018, together with Oksana Kazmina, they have been working on the interdisciplinary art and research project “Body Practices”. With the support of the British Council Ukraine, it was implemented in three cities of Ukraine - Kyiv (Otel’ club), Lviv (TSEKH Prostir), Mariupol (Tu platform). His interdisciplinary music and art project Cybele is also one of the components of the "Body Practices" project.
